Silent Night
Well Christmas days are over and the waiting now is for New Year's Eve. It's gonna be some silent nights since there are no musical adventures in sight or in my schedule. That's a strange feeling. Like all of sudden the world has become a big boring place. ;-)

Well I think I'll start reading again and maybe write some.

Maybe I'll even start a memory part over here and tell all about adventures that have happened before I started this blog!

Anyway, have a great New Years!

Forgetting the adventurous part...
After the last gig of a series there's usually an afterparty for family, friends and other invitees. And we weren't one of them. However we still like to try to get in. So we were waiting at the entrance of the party for the band and hoping they would invite us in, which they didn't of course. We did get to talk to Martijn a bit and I got to show Dion the pic that was taken of me and him dancing.
So while waiting and thinking of a way to get in, we saw two of our friends go in and they had a strip around their wrists that gives you permission to go in. By the way, every time we are waiting outside such an event, we decide on bringing old strips to the next gig just in case they use the same color which was the case this time, cause I still got one from the Robbie Williams gig which has the same color. I just wish I had brought it this time. We just never do.
Well, we called up our friends and asked them how they had gotten them and that turned out to be just plain luck. Some stranger had two spare ones left and they just were in the right place at the right time and got them.
So now the party crashing could start. Every time one person with a strip around their wrist would go outside with a loose strip in their pocket to go get another one and we did this until every one of us was inside. So the six of us were dancing and having fun while only two of us actually had those strips. I really was scared that someone would find out and throw us out, so what we did was try to hide our wrists while dancing.
But after a while more and more people left the party and the dancefloor was becoming emptier with the minute. I really felt so uncomfortable. I was scared that we were going to be thrown out at that moment. But then I started thinking. So what if we were gonna be thrown out. You know I have never ever been thrown out of anything. It would be a nice experience, wouldn't it. So after that I thought I kind of relaxed and enjoyed being there. And it's kind of fun to see the surprised faces of the band when they see you there.
I must admit that the party was kind of lame, but we still had a great time. Probably because of our illegal endeavors to get in. And I guess we were all still on a natural high from the brilliant gig.
WOW!!!
Yesterday I went to see Kane again. Yeah I know I already went the night before, but those tickets were from winning a contest and the ones for this evening I had bought already. It was their last gig for 2003 and it rocked. It totally rocked. I think I have never enjoyed myself so much. Well, that's probably cause memory seems to fade things a little, especially emotions. But this one was just so good! I don't know what happened, but the difference between the Friday gig and the Saturday one, was enormous. There could have been lightyears in between them.

Well maybe it was because the audience at this gig were all real Kane fans, since that was the first gig to go on sale and only the freaks, yeah I am counting me in, will get up out of bed early enough to make sure they have a ticket. But you know, those freaks know how to party!

You could feel the energy flow through the room. It was like an energy wire had broken loose and was going wild. And when the lights went of and the intro started there was just no stopping it. It was like an energy explosion. I am still totally impressed by it.

And now, even after I've said I wouldn't spend any more money on Kane, I know for sure that whenever they are performing somewhere again that I'll be there. I just can't help it. Their show can make me feel so good! It gives me so much energy and that's probably worth all the irritation that every once in a while makes me feel that they're not worthy of my support. But you know what, it's not even about that. It's about what I get from it and that's a lot. And I like to sing back at Dinand: you make me feel so good!

Meet & Greet
In my entire 'career' as a Kane fan I have never wanted to win a meet & greet. I just figured that I wouldn't have anything to say to them. I mean, I have been going to their gigs for like two and a half years now and I never waited for them after the shows to talk to them or get my pic taken or anything. Well..., not until recently. At the first try out gig in Vlissingen in the summer of this year. Before the gig, I ended up at the backstage entrance where the band was signing stuff and getting pics taken, because the girl who had my tickets was there also. So I thought, what the heck and got my pic taken with the lead singer. Ok, that unleashed a whole other side of me. LOL. I experienced how much fun it is and how nice it is to have that pic as some sort of a memento. So I got my pic taken with more people. And I'm loving it.

But now I have gone further down the drain that is called FANaticism (just kidding). I have actually been to an official meet & greet. And I had the greatest time. Now, I must admit that certain advantages may have helped it be a great time. (Me and my friends have seen Kane play over at least 90 times.) When the guys walked in, the lead singer Dinand, after scanning the room, immediately came our way and started greeting my two friends and me with three kisses on the cheek. How cute! And all the other fans looked happy because they thought they were gonna get some to. NOT! I don't mean to sound this mean, but it is so cool when you are being treated specially and other's get jealous. It kind of boosts your ego! :-) The weird side effect is that those people start greeting you like they've known you for years, just cause they think they can get close to the band that way. How pathetic is that?

Well we also had a nice chat with the keyboard player, Nico, and I asked him about his other band OlaBola (website OlaBola)) and he loved that. He just kept talking about it and told us that one of the Kane band members, Dennis, was their biggest fan. I thought that was very cute. Nico said that this was the first meet & greet he actually enjoyed, since mostly nobody's really interested in him. Well, you're welcome Nico! We had a great time to.

The rest of the time, we did some girlie laughter, had some laughs with Dion (the bassplayer), had some funny pics taken with the guitarist Dennis and also had our pics taken with the other band members and also one of ourselves made by drummer Martijn. Dion saw that and called out Charlie's Angels to us. So since then the three of us are also know as the Charlie's Angels. :-)

Another good thing about that meet & greet was that we were being lead into the venue before the doors opened. So we got the best places in the house, right in front and in the middle of the stage, and all that without having to fight our way to it.

Still the best thing of the evening were those kisses from Dinand!

So, when are we having another meet & greet?
Yahooo!!!!
I got my tickets today for the February 27th gig of the Black Eyed Peas in pop temple Paradiso in Amsterdam... Can't wait, can't wait.
I am now thinking about getting myself a ticket for their Cologne gig as well as their London gig.

Being in a tight spot
Ok, so I had nice evening at the Kane gig. Although it was not the best I ever saw, especially since the crowd was kind of quiet and uninspiring. And there were also some experiences I would love to have not gone through, but still, the evening was quite uplifting. Especially since they did their cover of All along the watchtower again. And it has been so long, since they did that the last time. It was actually kind of funny to see, cause only a small new group of die hards and all the oldtime die hard fan were the ones that were jumping and really getting into it.
But now I am in a tight spot, cause I really decided not to spend a lot of money on Kane again, but after this gig I remembered why I did go to all the gigs I could go to in the first place. What to do, what to do? We even had some fun when my other mates turned out to be riding right after the band's bus on their way home. That brought back memories. We tried to catch up with them, but I guess they were already to far away.

Irritations of a fan
You know those times when you kind of feel mistreated as a fan? Well, these times are here right now for me and a couple of my buddy fans.
I have been a (die hard) fan of a Dutch rock band called Kane for a while now. Yeah, I know it's not cool to be into them, but so be it. I am not in it for the coolness, but for the chemistry that's between me and their music and their performance.
Right now Kane is trying to get a breakthrough in other countries like Germany and they released a single over there, which was not available here in Holland. But it was possible to order the single from the German branch of Amazon. On their website Kane, called out to their fans and asked them to get the single and to make it interesting they turned it into a competition. You had to send your receipt to their manager's office and twenty people could win tickets to the HMH show on December 20th, including a VIP treatment and a meet & greet with the band.
Since I was going to Berlin to see the Black Eyed Peas (great show!) anyway, I thought it would be easier to get my copy in Berlin and I also bought more copies for my friends. I even asked the cashier if I could pay for two of them separately, so two other buddies of mine could also enter the competition. And, surprise surprise, we won. (I think we won because our receipts were actually from a store in German as opposed to the receipts from Amazon.de). But to our bigger surprise we won only one ticket, so you have to go all by yourself unless a friend of you has won as well or is willing to buy one, and the ticket was for the show on December 19th as opposed to the 20th.
So I send an email to one of the band members and asked if we could bring anybody and what had happened to the meet&greet and the VIP treatment. And the answer was that we could not bring somebody and that they had changed the date cause there were still tickets available to that show, so if you wanted to bring a friend you could go out and BUY a ticket. And he didn't know anything of a VIP treatment, but we were getting the meet & greet. What he didn't know was that at the time we got that information, the 19th show was also sold out, so ever winner had to go just by themselves. What fun! Not!
(I luckily have friends who have also won. I guess I probably wouldn't have gone to the meet & greet just by myself.)
So what happened later on. Suddenly prices were being given away through radio station Yorin FM and those winners can bring someone, will get the VIP treatment and will get to go to the afterparty, which is probably only held after the 20th gig. But to their defense, they probably didn't arrange that themselves and was just totally Yorin FM's doing.
And today came the biggest surprise. They have these id tags and they have unique numbers on them and they use those sometimes for winning free tickets and stuff. I got one, and so do all my Kane mates. So unannounced, they selected 5 id tag holders and had them win tickets to the 20th show including VIP treatment, a meet & greet and tickets to the afterparty. Except for the fact that those winning numbers were all above 1000, which means that none of the fans who have been supporting them from the very beginning won, AND they also get to bring someone.
So the people who went to the trouble to get themselves a copy of the German single, which ever way you got it, get the least interesting price. So to me, that's the same as saying: Yeah, we like it that you guys are always there, but those people who don't always buy anything released and come to all our shows even when they don't have a ticket or when it's in the middle of nowhere, who don't go through the trouble of going to tv shows if they are a guest while you prefer not to have your face shown on TV and who haven't been there for ages, well they're just more important to us.
Well I think I will keep my money in my pocket and support artists who do really appreciate fans and show it. I am just so fed up with this.

Ow and VIP treatment is way overrated and I am not really interested in it, but I do like the free food and drinks that you get. ;-)

Having said this, I hope I will have a great time tomorrow at their Hardenberg gig. Well, you know, I already have the ticket. It's a shame to waste it. And when you're used to go to every gig, you have to slowly cut back. ;-)

An almost adventure...
Well kind of actually. Last night I got a last minute phone call from one of my friends asking me what I was up to and I said I was having dinner with other friends of mine. She then actually sounded disappointed, so I asked her what was up and she said she had an extra ticket to this Nickelback gig in Amsterdam. I gave her the phone number of another friend and she actually did get to go and she said it was really really nice. They had fireworks and the whole place rocked. I also heard that a lot of my other concert buddies were there. Didn't even know they all were going. One of them even got thrown out of the place. I wish I could have seen that. He was making pics with a digital camera and got caught, and usually you hand in your camera and go back to the stage area, but he probably got too bold and said something that security guy didn't like and got thrown out of the venue.

But in his defense, those guys that handle the security at such places are usually just stuck up guys who think they have power because they're wearing a jacket with the word security on it. They truly feel that it gives them the power and the possibility to treat you as if you were a criminal or something. I once got shoved by one of those guys and they're not even supposed to touch you unless you're some kind of a danger to other people. So I told him angrily that he was to take his hands of me and he said something like: "you student brat". And I just laughed so loud. Because I haven't been in college for a while now, so while he was trying to offend me, he just paid me a really big compliment on me looking much younger than I actually am. And, at the same time, proved the lowness of his IQ. That, to me, proves what kind of stupid people they hire to do really responsible jobs. Because what happens when there's really some bad situation and they just want to show off their non existent power. That could really get out of hand.

Right now, I don't mind not having gone to the gig, because even though my friends all had a good time and I probably would have to, Nickelback is still Nickelback and their show is alike every time. I just want to remember the special gig they did in a packed and steamy hot Milky Way. That was just so good. Their energy really flowed directly from them to us.
And my favorite moment of the evening:

Chad Kroeger: "Next time we'll play in a bigger venue"
audience: "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"
CK: "What? You guys don't like bigger places?"
aud.: "NOOOOOOO!!!!"
CK: "But what about all those other guys who couldn't get tickets?"
one bold guy in the audience: "Fuck them!"
CK: (laughs) "So it's every dog for itself?"
aud.: "YEAH!!!!!!!!!"

And you know that's just actually the way it is. Gigs in smaller venues are always more powerful and much more enjoyable than those big and completely directed shows. And in those smaller venues you feel more connected to the artists and more a part of the show. That could never happen in any arena.
And you know, they should just do more gigs at smaller venues. So I can go more than once as well. *grin*

I'm still wondering though, where Incubus held their secret gig in Amsterdam today. Totally forgot about it until my friend mentioned it again.
And, even more important, where's Brandon Boyd staying? ;-)

Young new talent
I was just watching an Oprah show (probably a rerun) and one of her guests was that extremely talented little eleven year old girl Tiffany Evans. She's got the greatest voice I've ever heard. It's really phenomenal. She has been singing ever since she could talk and has never been off key. She was discovered by incident when she was asked by a performer if she could sing and was invited on stage. She then competed in the Star Search and wins! She even gets full points from every member of the jury and she deserves it. Her voice is so beautiful, so clear and so pure. Every time I hear her sing I start crying. I just can't help it. I don't even feel sad, but her voice just makes the tears come out. I guess they want to listen to her too.

She has her own website and you can find it here. It's a shame that there aren't any soundbits of her singing on it, cause I really would love to share that with you.

But this kid will be a big star. Like Oprah said: "you're future is so bright, I have to wear sunglasses to watch it"
PS
Congrats to BEP for winning a Billboard Award! More to come, more to come. I promise... ;-)
Thanks goes out to the fans
I have been into the Black Eyed Peas since I stumbled upon one of their songs years ago, but ever since I saw them live that feeling became way stronger. I don't what it is with live performances, but they do something to me. They really get to me. Especially theirs. They're so friggin good! Anyways, ever since that gig, I also hang out on the BEP board daily. And read what I found on it a minute ago:

That's just so cool and sweet of Will to do that. So many thanks and thumbs up for Will.

Ooh, that reminds me. I've got another story about Will and thumbs up. Well, I'll leave that for another moment.

Good night y'all!
Allow me...
To introduce myself. That's actually a song by Nicotine ft. Gotcha! and a really good one!

I am a 30 year old music fan. And I mean all music... Well almost all music. I really can't stand any house related music and music that's just to damn loud. So to Jennifer Lopez, ok let's get loud, but let's stay out of the ear damaging loudness.

So what happens when you like lots of different music. Well you buy a lot of CD's and go to even more concerts. And I love it. I just love it. To me there's no better way of spending your evening, and sometimes just starting your evening, with excellent artists that are sharing their passion with you and take you right with them on their musical experience. If you're also a concert goer, you know what I am talking about and if you're not. Try it, you will love it!

And in addition to loving the experience I am also a concert photographer. I really love doing that. It's like trying to capture the moment, to capture that mysterious and elevating feeling that people experience while watching their favorite artists. If you wonder what my pics look like, just click here.

Well that's enough for the introduction.

I will tell you all about my adventures soon!

Thanks for listening!
Sandra
